Kansans for Life Political Action Committee (KFL PAC) released the following statement in response to Vicki Schmidt’s selection of former State Representative Joe Newland as her running mate while seeking the Republican nomination for governor.
“Vicki Schmidt’s disgraceful record may be the most pro-abortion of any candidate to seek statewide office in Kansas” said KFL PAC Board Member Robyn Johnson. “No matter who her running mate is, that candidate now owns her record of supporting live dismemberment abortions, taxpayer funded abortion, her opposition to parental consent laws and more.
Republican Primary voters cannot allow Vicki Schmidt to sneak through a crowded primary field and KFL PAC will do our part to ensure she cannot run from her record.”
Schmidt’s tenure as a State Senator (2005-2018) coincided with some of the most important life-related votes considered by the legislature. Her record is horrific on life.
- Opposed significant limits on live dismemberment abortions (was the only Republican in the Kansas Senate to do so)
- Voted against charging offenders with a double homicide if a pregnant woman is murdered
- Opposed limits on taxpayer-funded abortions
- Stood against parental consent laws before an abortion is performed on a minor girl
